MBO | Methylene Bis (5-Methyl Oxazolidine)

Description

MBO (Methylene Bis (5-Methyl Oxazolidine)) is a highly effective formaldehyde-releasing in-can preservative designed to control bacterial and fungal contamination in paints, coatings, emulsions, and various industrial formulations. It delivers strong, long-lasting antimicrobial protection and is particularly suitable for systems prone to spoilage during production, storage, or application.

MBO offers excellent compatibility with both synthetic and natural polymer systems, making it suitable for a wide range of water-based products. Its controlled release mechanism ensures consistent preservation, prevents foul odor formation, and maintains formulation stability under diverse processing conditions.

This preservative is highly effective at low dosages and performs reliably even in challenging environments involving surfactants, emulsifiers, and high organic loads.

Applications

  • Paints & Coatings:
    • Prevents microbial spoilage in water-based paints and emulsions
    • Preserves product integrity during storage
    • Suitable for decorative and industrial coating systems
  • Emulsions & Polymer Dispersions:
    • Ensures stability in acrylic, styrene-acrylic, and other latex systems
    • Protects against bacterial degradation and thickening issues
  • Adhesives & Sealants:
    • Ideal for PVA, EVA, and acrylic adhesive formulations
    • Maintains long-term microbiological stability
  • Construction Chemicals:
    • Compatible with water-based putties, tile adhesives, and admixtures
    • Reduces contamination during storage and application
  • Industrial Formulations:
    • Suitable for slurries, pigment dispersions, and process fluids
    • Performs well across a wide pH and temperature range
